Hello fellow Maharlikans, I need your support to help fire victims . DQ University in Davis is set up as a camp to house firefighters, evacuees, pets and livestock. Food, showers and beddings are provided. This is the catchment area for the wildfires in Winters, Napa, Berryesa and Vacaville. I volunteered for a group called Disaster Assist Team. Need badly these items: Diapers, baby wipes, feminine hygiene, blankets, soap, shampoo, toothbrushes/toothpaste, snacks. Anything helps.

Raging California wildfires spotted from space.

On Wednesday (Aug. 19), NASA's Terra satellite caught sight of billowing smoke clouds spilling off of the California coast. Hot and dry conditions expected to extend across the state throughout the weekend (at least) could support continued fires and even additional wildfire outbreaks, according to the same NASA statement.Read More>

Where There's a NEED, There's a LION

Whenever a Lions club gets together, problems get smaller. And communities get better. That's because we help where help is needed – in our own communities and around the world – with unmatched integrity and energy.

We Serve

The World's Largest Service Club Organization

Our 46,000+ clubs and 1.4+ million members make us the world's largest service club organization. We're also one of the most effective. Our members do whatever is needed to help their local communities. Everywhere we work, we make friends. With children who need eyeglasses, with seniors who don’t have enough to eat and with people we may never meet.

A PROFILE OF FERVOR IN LIONISM

The Sacramento Maharlika Lions Club

Chartered in July, 1993, with 23 members. Under the leadership of Charter President Lion Bert Melliza

and incumbent President Lion Raul Cupino, the Sacramento Maharlika Lions Club has grown almost three and a half times it membership to 83 dedicated Lions in a very short span of 18 months. Although this spectacular growth is unprecedented in the history of the District, club membership chairman, Lion Ernie Santos is stopping nowhere as he lines up several more batches of new members waiting to join the club as of this writing. While the Club was busy inducting new members every meeting, it found time to organize the Maharlika Leo Club with more than 40 members.

The impact is tremendous in terms of service value to the community. Because of its  membership strength , it is able to carry out multiple project simultaneously.  On most weekends, the Club undertakes two of three community projects at the same time at three different locations. Its major projects and accomplishments of its members have been acclaimed in the Philippine Review, a local Filipino-American newspaper in Sacramento.

Some of its notable projects include the major renovation of the convent of the Sisters of the Religious of the Virgin Mary in Sacramento. This convent has served as a refuge for many dislocated Filipino-American and other transitory needy citizens. In disrepair for 20 years, the Maharlika Lions replaced its leaking roofs, bathroom and kitchen facilities along with a fresh coat of paint for the entire building.

Other projects were the beautification of the Lake Victoria enclave of the Sacramento Zoo, free Glaucoma screening for the uninsured Filipino veterans. International Youth Exchange/Scholarship, Humanitarian Medical Mission to the Philippines, Peace Poster Contest, LCIF/Sight First/White Cane, Food and Clothing drive for the poor, Assistance to the Flood disaster victims, Easter Seal Telethon and many miscellaneous projects.

To underwrite these projects, the Club has sponsored many creative fundraising functions, such as the Christmas caroling, golf tournament, Reno/Tahoe excursions, White cane Halloween dinner dance and Casino Nights.

On its second year, the Club has launched its Club Bulletin, The Maharlikan, under the leadership of bulletin chairman, Lion Rod Acosta and managing editor, Lion Joe De Vega. On its way to became one of the best bulletins in the district, one of its articles had been reprinted in the District Bulletin, The Pride. In addition , the Club has formed its very own Maharlika Lions Singer which have rendered entertainment numbers in many functions of the Club.

One special strenght of the Club is the dedicated commitment and participation of the Lions wives and significant others. Wherever the Lions are, the Ladies are with them hand in hand consistently.

The Club has seven Melvin Jones Fellows, and has earned many Proud Lions and Proud Sponsors awards. Equally important among many of the Club's accomplishments, the Maharlika Lions sought and succeeded to offer to the District Lions, their next Vice District Governor, in the person of the Club Charter President, Lion Bert Melliza.
